Henry Holland AW13: On the catwalk yesterday, buy it now!

Hi guys,
Last night was the Henry Holland catwalk show for AW13: And according to several bloggers and tweeters, it was the best show of London Fashion Week so far. I'm a big fan of Henry Holland and love the quirky twists and juxtapositions of his collections. And this one didn't disappoint: neon teamed with fur? Uptown city girl with downtown baseball caps? What's not to like!
photo henryholland1_zps8ff246e6.png Part of the new AW13 collection was the 'rave wave' print: an eye wateringly bright pattern in orange and fuschia pink. Want it? Well, the signature design is available on eBay right now as part of an exclusive collaboration with House of Holland and the eBay and it's live from now until midnight on Sunday 24th February. All the proceeds will be going to Cancer Research UK: isn't it great when shopping for something you want can help a worthy cause at the same time?!
photo henryholland2-1_zpse54c3b64.png Fans of House of Holland can get their hands on the ‘rave wave’ dress long before the AW13 collection is available in-store. And you can get your hands on some other pieces too: the dress is part of a four piece capsule collection made up of the dress (£100), an oversized slogan t-shirt (£50), an iPhone cover (£25) and a pair of tights (£25).

You can find out more about the collection and shop it here now!

Did you live stream the House of Holland show? Or have you seen any photos of it yet? I'd be interested to hear what you thought!

The Debenhams Spring/Summer press day

Hi guys,

It's time to intersperse the Christmas posts with another glimpse into the future; by which I mean, the clothes we'll be wearing next Spring!

I'm a big fan of Debenhams, especially their designer collaborations. I always love the H! by Henry Holland range (look out for the cute vintage style tea dress in the new collection) and all of the Editions designers, though my favourite is Preen.

Firstly, can I get a collective 'Oooh' for all the colours? I'm not really a big fan of pastels, so I'm delighted to report that this is the third S/S press day I've been to in the past fortnight where bold bright colours have been at the fore.

I loved the vintage 1950s-inspired swimwear (especially that blue swimsuit with the gorgeous bird print on it) and in a move not like me, I also liked the more mature Betty Jackson Black collection: think the blue coat over the patterned dress in the first image.

My favourite part of the whole press day though was the homeware collections, especially the new Editions @ Home range (complete with new designers) that is being introduced this Spring. In fact, I loved them so much I'm going to save them and show you the whole collection as soon as it launches.....

PS - Happy 1st December everyone! Behold the new Christmassy header in its honour!!

Daily Wear: Red, red, and....erm, more red!

Hi guys,
A sunny weekend- hurrah! Let's all make a beeline to our gardens/the park and make the most of it! Because I'm desperate to be outside, today's post is just a short one to show the outfit I wore to the Fabulous event on Thursday night:
Photobucket
I don't know why I look so stern: I wasn't sure when lil sis was taking the picture!

I love this red dress (although it is a little short!) It's from H! by Henry Holland at Debenhams. The clogs are Moheda ones from Sarenza, the belt is Topshop, necklace is River Island, and the satchel bag was a bargain £2 car boot sale find! To match the dress and the bag I painted my toes and fingers red, and wore my brightest red lipstick. I love wearing red: if possible, it makes my hair look blonder than it is already, which is a massive plus point for me!

Anyway, enough of my fashion chat: get outside and enjoy the sunshine quick, before it disappears again!

Debenhams A/W press day

Hi guys,
Yesterday was the Debenhams press day, and the biggest press day I have been to so far. It was a literal maze of new season fashions, just waiting to be explored! It took me far longer than I expected to walk around, because I wanted to look at (and touch!) just about everything. Here are some of the pieces I loved most:

Evening frocks
Photobucket

I never get invited anywhere that requires wearing an evening dress, but if I did then Debenhams would be my first stop for buying one! I loved the retro, seventies-style mustard satin, and the beautiful silver ruffled gown. My favourite though was the leopard print wrap maxi from Star by Julian MacDonald. This dress would look so flattering, and is just screaming to be paired with killer red shoes! Speaking of shoes...

Sparkly Shoes
Photobucket
Photobucket
I know it's far to early to mention the 'C' word, but these sparkly super-high heels would be perfect for teaming with your favourite little black dress and dancing the festive night away! I love the comfort of wedges, but don't think they're smart enough for a more formal evening occasion...that is, until I saw the second pair! I am now lusting after sparkly shoes like Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz.

H! by Henry Holland

Finally, I could've worn every single piece from the H! range. It was my massive win of the press day. When the H! range was first launched I found it too young but now I really love it: the retro shapes of the dresses are really flattering, and the prints are distinctively lovely! My most wanted piece is the red jacket in the first picture: in fact, it would go really well with the red H! dress i'm wearing today! See, I told you I was an addict...

Debenhams S/S11 Press day lust!

Hi guys,
Yesterday I went to the Debenhams press day, and it was amazing: I was overwhelmed by the sheer volume of new season clothes and accessories available to go crazy cooing over. Although i'm still in love with my winter coat and I love wrapping up warm, i'm also starting to get excited about next summer and the excuse to shop for pretty summer dresses again.
Prepare for a picture heavy post: I took alot of snaps!
Photobucket
Bags, glorious bags!! The satchel shape still seemed popular, and I was delighted to see so much tan everywhere for next season; it's my absolute favourite colour for leather! The tribal/animal print trend was also everywhere for accessories: not to my taste but some beautiful looking pieces with really luxurious fabrics.
Photobucket
Shoes are a personal weakness: I have more than any girl could need in a lifetime. But that doesn't mean my heart doesn't race when I see a wall full of shoes: I am human. The Faith line seems to be thriving since Debenhanms bought it out and inhouse when they went bankrupt: the cork-look heels in the middle of the wall are a particular fave!
Photobucket
I love the Red Herring frill detail jacket on the left, and couldn't resist a shot of some Henry Holland: his collections seem to get better and better (I know i've said that before!)Back on the satchel chat, most of the H! bags were satchel shaped and I loved them: great details and colours.
Photobucket
Red Herring is my favourite of all the brands stocked in debenhams (despite it being the cheapest) It's so fashion-forward and easy to wear! I love the casual styling of this outfit, but the real attention grabbers are the brown boots: I wish they were instore now, as they're just what i'm looking for in all this snow!
Photobucket
I can't resist eveningwear, even though I hardly wear it. The dresses in the first picture are from the new Edit collection (these were the only ones on show)The other dresses are perfect for weddings/the races/garden parties: the formal floral, again, isn't to my taste but I love the pattern and the thick cotton fabric.
Photobucket
Yes i'm going to say it: The dreaded H word. I love these maxi dresses and wide legged trousers for my honeymoon: the holiday wear and bikinis for next summer were lovely, and I am obsessed with the Tripp luggage in the second picture: such lovely vibrant colours, and so much more exciting than the boring black luggage everyone else carries!

H! by Henry Holland... My picks

Hi guys,
Half way through the Debenhams H! by Henry Holland event last night, I was absolutely delighted to be told that I could choose two pieces to take home with me at the end of the evening. I immediately thought of the blue fur coat, but as I already have three fur coats, I tried on the varsity jacket, the camel coat, and the monogrammed blazer as well. I then tried on about half a dozen dresses,

Excuse the fuzziness of the pictures, because whilst i've got the hang of my new camera, sadly Mike is still getting to grips with it!! Here's what I chose:
Photobucket

Photobucket
As soon as I tried on the varsity jacket I fell in love with it: I have no idea how i'm going to style it, as it doesn't really go with my normal dresses, but I want to give it a go! Any ideas guys!?

The scribble print dress didn't excite massively on the hanger, but every single person that tried it on looked amazing in it: it's cut to fit curves and the black waist band is really flattering: I can't find it on the website, but hopefully it will be instore soon!! Crazy high heels and a black cropped blazer, and this dress will be ready to hit the town!

It was really hard to choose just two pieces, which is a sign of how good the new season collection is: I think i'm a convert to H! by Henry Holland (apart from the teeny bikini's and the micro shorts, of course, which i'll leave to the kids!) What do you guys think? Interested to know your perception of the range.

New season H! by Henry Holland...With Henry Holland!

Hi guys,
Last night I was excited to be invited to Debenhams to view the newest H! by Henry Holland collection, and to meet the man himself:
Photobucket
In the picture above Henry is wearing the camel coat from the current H! collection, which is in store now. He also tried on the varsity jacket and a couple of jumpers, and took the jacket and jumpers home with him (if that's not a seal of approval from the designer, I don't know what is!)
Photobucket
We rifled through the rails looking at the new season collections, whilst Henry gossiped and sipped on his lemsip (apparently designers get fashion week 'flu as well as bloggers!) Sneaky insights we learnt from Henry:

- Next years Spring/Summer drops will have some pieces with a seventies influence, just like the mainline collection. However the bulk of the collection will have a very 90s feel (Henry said "think Fresh Prince of Bel Air") and there will be some more feminine girly pieces too.

- There is going to be a H! by Henry Holland Christmas range, featuring sequins and sparkle (can't wait for that to hit the shops!) My favourite piece of the whole evening was a blue fur coat, which is part of the Christmas collection: apparently this took a long time to create, as the prototypes kept shedding, but it's perfect now, and so soft!

- Because he's such a jetsetter (lucky him!) he does most of his work on planes, because he can't be distracted by phone calls. However he'll always call London home (and has since just a week after he moved here, much to the chagrin of his dad!)

-Henry thinks the prints in the collections just keep getting better and better, and he admits there was a steep learning curve in getting them right.

I think the H! range just keeps getting better with each collection: I also think it is maturing as time goes by; originally I would have said the collection was only appropriate for teens but now I see more and more "twentysomethings" wearing it, and I often happily wear H! by Henry Holland myself (as i'm going to show in my next post!) The upcoming range featured some great key pieces, which I can see selling out really fast, so get in quick!

Getting festival fit with a little help from Henry Holland

It seems that I have turned into a major convert to the H! by Henry Holland collection at Debenhams. Last week I was lusting over the capes and satchels from the A/W'10 collection. Next week i'm going for a sneak preview of the high summer collection. And today i'm turning to the H! range for outfits that will make me look festival fabulous!

Festivals are synonymous with summer, and despite my dislike of tents and mud, even I get involved! This year I will be rocking out whilst sporting a monochrome floral jumpsuit with oversized shades (for a touch of easy glam) and if it gets really warm, this denim dress over my swimsuit and a big straw hat:
Photobucket
Jumpsuit: £40
Denim dress: £28

My choices from the H! range are very much influenced by my boobs, otherwise I would want even more from the current collection: possibly because it is a youth range, many of the dresses and play suits are cupped, and these are aimed at someone with a generally smaller bust. If that's you then your possibilities from the H! range for looking festival chic are pretty much endless:
Photobucket
I love the first floral bustier dress and it would look perfect for a sexy festival look teamed with gladiator sandals and oversized shades. I also love alot of the retro-looking swimwear from the collection, which is why i've included the swimsuit: fingers crossed we have a summer that's hot enough that we can wear swimwear as outerwear this year!

Debenhams A/W press day: If the sun isn't coming out can it be winter already??

Sometimes I have to ruminate over new ranges before I can decide if I like them or not: this was not the case with the Debenhams A/W10 collection, which I am completely in love with!
Photobucket
Most suprising for me was the Henry Holland range. I liked the initial collection, but impartially: I could see that it was perfect for young trendy gals about town, but couldn't envisage wearing it myself. This time though, I want every single piece! The looks remind me very much of Luella, there are some beautiful satchels (perfect for that "back to school" feeling we all get in September) and there is a gorgeous cape that I am determined to make mine as soon as it hits the shops! The youth element remains, with knitted ear muffs that look like headphones, but it's somehow cooler this time round.
Photobucket
I'm obsessed with luggage. Someone that only goes on holiday a couple of times a year shouldn't own more than five suitcases. But I do. And I loved this new collaboration of Jasper Conran at Tripp luggage. (Just realised I spelt that wrong in the graphic above! oops!) The purple snakeskin would be the obvious choice, but I really loved the distressed brown leather: it had a well-loved unisex feel which I really related to, and also means you can have the other half carry your bags without too much whinging (my favourite suitcase has big babushka dolls on it, and if it gets too heavy i'm on my own!)
Photobucket
The Red Herring collection was gorgeous and dark and gothic: there was lots of velvet and sumptuous fabrics, and the burgandy velvet dress in the foreground is a particular favourite: I expect we will see this all over the Christmas party "must-have" pages! I've said it before, but i'm really glad hem lines are dropping; I ordered my first maxi dress this week, and I have everything crossed the length works on me, because I think they look phenomenal.

As always (because it's Debenhams) the prices were really affordable. I've already ear marked that Henry Holland cape as next years replacement for my winter coat. And there were loads of accessories options I wished were in store now! Overall, one of my favourite press days so far. What do you guys think?

H! by Henry Holland behind the scenes photos

The first H! by Henry Holland @ Debenhams drop is landing soon, and I for one am excited: as you might remember, I previewed the range a couple of months ago, and there were a couple of lovely floral dresses on my hit list. I think the range is going to be really popular, especially given the massive '90s revival we are experience at the moment: "Very nineties" would be the one phrase I would choose if I had to sum up the collection in two words, in fact.
.
So you can imagine how excited I was when I was sent some behind the scenes shots of Henry working on the collection. And even more excited that I could share them with you:

I love seeing "sketch to dress" pictures: it fascinates me to see how the original vision evolves to become a wearable viable piece.
.
I always think it's nice to know that a designer has been truly involved in a highstreet collaborative project: so often I imagine that designers and especially celebrities just turn up to the launch party. It's nice to know this isn't the case with the H! range (I base this statement on the evidence of the three pictures above: so i'm not sure if it's really 100% true. I'd like to think so though!)
.
Looks good doesn't it?! I will be even more excited when I can get in store and try all the stuff on: expect a full review on that as soon as it happens! Will you be checking it out? Or as the range of designer collaborations grows and grows are you loosing interest? The market for it certainly is becoming saturated!

H! by Henry Holland launch party

Tonight was the launch party of the H! by Henry Holland collection for Debenhams, so naturally I toddled down to check it out. My first thought on viewing the collection was that it wasn't quite what I was expecting; not as bold and brash as Henry's usual style. All the trademarks were there - polka dots, floral, tartan - but in a more understated, some might say more wearable, way.
The range is made up of 80 womenswear separates and a 150 piece collection of accessories and swimwear. Pieces that I especially enjoyed were the yellow floral dress, the neon colour block shoes, and the retro looking, casio-inspired, 2 tone watch. The tartan suit certainly had high impact in a light, almost pajama cotton, fabric, and was most representative of what I was expecting from the collection. Worn as separates, I thought both pieces had great potential. Lots of the pieces seemed inspired by other 80s brands - the ray ban style sunglasses for example.
Someone at the party told me that two of Henry's influences for the collection were "Clueless" and "My so called life". Viewed in this light the heavily 80s inspired collection made loads more sense!

As well as a chance to view the clothes, the evening was also a party. Fellow bloggers Style PA, Miggy and Disney Roller girl were all there and I also spotted Hilary Alexander in the crowd. Of course, Henry himself was the star attraction and I was disappointed not to have a chance to take his photo for you. The canopes were plentiful, as was the wine, and the goody bag contained the H! magazine baguette clutch; hoping to use that over the party season!
.
All in all a good night was had! Unfortunately though if you're looking at any of these pieces and wishing they were yours, you'll have to wait: The collection doesn't launch until February next year. But don't worry - i'll remind you nearer the time and we can hit the shops!
.
