Trends: Saying Hello to Summer With Dorothy Perkins

Hi guys,
I have a huge soft spot for Dorothy Perkins (or Dotty P's, as we call it in my neck of the woods!) Its just as trend led as some of the other Arcadia brands, but the styles are more wearable, the cuts are more forgiving. Basically, Dorothy Perkins is where the Topshop addicts turns when she has a baby: or at least, where this Topshop addict turned once she'd had her baby, and I can't get enough of it!

I love the changing seasons for so many reasons, but the main one is that it gives us the chance to hit the shops for our new season wardrobes. Here are my picks of the very best of summer from Dorothy Perkins, most of them new obsessions after seeing them in their promo video:

photo dorothyperkins_zpsf50a9b3e.png1. 1. Banana leaf print jumpsuit, from £35 to £24.50
2. Floral double strap dress, from £20 to £14.
3.Pink and White Floral Maxi Dress, from £30 to £27.
4. Floral neoprene dress, £28 to £22.50

I know everything I've picked is floral. I'm having something of a floral moment this summer: from ditzy florals to big blousy blooms they're all I want to wear. Luckily, Dorothy Perkins is the perfect highstreet store to scratch that flower-covered itch this season. There are so many different floral frocks on offer you're literally spoilt for choice! In fact, Dorothy Perkins is always my go to store for florals; they just always seem to get their prints spot on. (I can't be the only one that is still wearing pieces from their 2011 Floradita range!). They're on trend but always wearable, and they always seem to use colours that are flattering to my skin tone. It's like magic!

If you're a floral addict like me then do check out the video: there is a floral swimsuit and a floral bikini in it that I am lusting over so hard: I really wish I'd seen them before my holiday earlier in the month.

Need an extra incentive to check out the new summer ranges from Dotty Ps? You can now get up to 30% Off Everything at Dorothy Perkins in their huge May event: just don't leave it too late, as the promotion ends on the 1st of June (that's this Sunday).

LFW SS12: Ada Zanditon

Hi guys,
As part of LFW's digital schedule, Ada Zanditon didn't give a presentation, but instead showcased the collection with the screening of a film inspired by it.

The collection was entitled Poseisus and the designs featured all of the designers trademarks: geometrical sculpturing, eye-catching prints, and innovative designs. The film took us on the journey of a greek goddess seahorse who travels the world, flowing in the current. There was clear inspiration from sea horses, and greek goddesses incorporated into the show.

After the screening two models wearing the key dresses from the collection circulated amongst the crowds. The cobweb/seahorse inspired dress looked phenomenal, but almost more impressive was the eery eye make up: the whole look left me transfixed.

One of the things I most admire about Ada Zanditon's work is her commitment to ethical and sustainable manufacturing. Ada has been dubbed the greenest rising star of London Fashion Week: but you really can't tell when looking at the quality and innovation of her designs. Leave all your preconceptions about hippie, scratchy ethical fashion at the door: this is high fashion at its best!

And here's the video from the presentation. Just turn the volume up to deafening level, and you can feel like you're actually there:

Sarenza high heel race: Too good not to share!

Hi guys,
I've already posted about the massive fun of the Sarenza high heel race, but this video was just too good not to share, as it shows the fun and atmosphere of the event perfectly: this is what we put ourselves through last weekend. We were racing for shoes, and for a free trip to Paris. It was a whole lot of fun!!

Sadly the video doesn't show the fabfrocks team racing in all their glory, but I can assure you we were fabulous, and more importantly, we didn't come last. I started the weekend not giving a damn whether we won or not, but when you're actually stood on the track waiting for the gun to go with people cheering you on at every angle, winning (or at least not coming last) becomes very important!

I know i've already shown you my pics of the event, but the official photographer was much better than I am (obviously!) So here are a couple of the official pictures I just have to share:

Patriotic and topical: look at Reena proudly waving the Kate and Wills photo, whilst Amy went for a more traditional Queen shot, and I opted to bury myself behind Union Jack. The more pictures I see the more I remember what a fun night it was. I will definitely be entering a team next year and am already looking forward to it: will I see you there?!

Video break: Frock Me with TKMaxx

I'm so glad Frock Me is back on our screens: it's perfect Sunday morning hangover TV! Each episode is themed to a certain trend (last week it was prints but my fav so far has been military) which keeps is really topical and its one of those shows that could be too achingly cool to watch, but is served with a massive dose of self-irony and fun that actually makes it watchable, and the hosts likeable.

I'm suffering for a birthday hangover this morning, so instead of rabbiting on and hurting my brain, I thought we'd have a video break. Here's some of my favourite clips from the series so far:

Sorry for the lazy post, a fuller one will come later, filled with exciting news (well, exciting for me at least!) In the meantime isn't Paloma Faith (in the first video) gorgeous?? I sense a massive girl crush coming on! I also have a bit of an inappropriate crush on Henry Holland, but I think mostly I want him to be my friend: I bet he knows how to have a rocking night out, and gives great fashion advice. I bet he's really bitchy too - and I do love a good bitch every now and again!

As is obligatory, here comes the credit: Frock Me with TK Maxx is on Sundays on Channel 4. For more information check out www.facebook.com/tkmaxx

TV TV TV: Testing, beta, try-out etc.

Hello blogosphere,

Sorry for the delay in the near-daily blather. Me and Tor have been sick (it's all the kissing with tongues we do) and unable to voice our mealy mouthed opinions about stuff 'n' junk. Tor is overrun with deadlines and schoolwork but I, as ever, have no real life or hobbies to speak of, so you're stuck with the Wigmore solo this week and possibly next. As a kind-of experiment, I just ran up a very shit 2 minute video on my BRAND NEW MAC. Yes, you heard right. I have joined the San-Fran hippie-poseur creative professional elite wankerclub du jour. I'd like to say I use it primarily for my creative work but in truth, I mostly use the neato built-in camera to check my make-up and see how cute I look in sepia, infrared and 'cartoon effect'.

With that in mind, here's my very first video blog, concerning the best charity shop find I've had this year. It cost £7 from Cancer Research. It also stinks of pubs and ladysweat because I've worn it three times and Tor once so I actually had to fish it out of th laundry pile. Y'all should thank your lucky stars that Smell-o-vision didn't make it past the 1950s.

Here it is: slurry voice, ill-advised 'humour', Debbie Reynolds tribute opening and all:

Wow. I just--- wow. Next time I'll write a script. And sort out some lighting. And get a voice coach. And learn my angles. And try not to smell like three separate days of human fluid.

I'm still ill you know. That's my excuse. I've watched 3 straight series of The American Office in bed on my laptop. It is vastly superior to the UK The Office. That is my opinion and it is correct. I am also addicted to Mindy Kaling (Kelly from The Office (US))'s awesome and unusually profane shopping blog.
You should probably go and read her. Apparently being an American comedy writer with a shopping addiction is pretty sweet. If I were her, I'd spend all my time trying to marry Paul Lieberstein. The fact that she does not appear to do this makes me respect her a little less.

Oh, Toby. I would feel your pain and groin.

I recognise he is fictional however so the actor Paul Lieberstein will have to do. This is not so bad, especially as he was also a writer on "Clarissa Explains It All". Clarissa taught a pre-teen Becky that early 90s fashion could one day liberate her from her fat girl baggy t-shity 'n' jeans combo!

Not bad, right? They're selling that Keith Haring t-shirt shizzle at Uniqlo right now!

Both £12.99 here at Uniqlo.co.uk

Lace, Doc Martens and hipster art -shirts? Screw Claudia Kishi - Clarissa Darling's the auger of mid 00's fashion truth!

Wow, for someone who purported not to want to write anything, I sure have blathered. In summary: TV = universally good, Me + TV = something other than universal good. But hey, online media is where the real writing money is, right?

Right?

Love,
Becky.

Yasmin le Bon is regressing.

Hello friends,

Today I am ill, so no lengthy discourse. Instead please enjoy this informative 1989 MTV video of the super-dupe models backstage at Armani. Cindy Crawford hosts.

"Behave yourself, Naomi." - Wow, maybe if Cindy'd been consistent with that stone-cold disclipline maybe there'd be a few less assistants with cell-phone dents in their heads. Also, I firmly enjoy Linda Evangelista's barely concealed annoyance and Cindy's matter-of-fact self-oiling interlude and the accompanying pubic mound, mournful and bald like an American Eagle.

Hm. I feel better already. The 1980s are such a balm to the troubled soul.

Your pal,
Becky.
