LFW AW13: Ultra Feminine at Timur Kim

Hi guys,
I really loved the Timur Kim collection for AW13, which was so feminine that it only featured two pairs of trousers: the focus was very much on skirts and dresses. In fact, it felt like a Spring Summer collection, with it's strapless prom dresses, light and airy colours, and lack of anything discernibly warm: like a coat or a jacket! photo timurkim1_zpsb54ef113.jpg To me the collection had a very vintage, prairie-like feel to it. This was emphasised by the models eschewing heels in favour of gold and tan brogues: lending them the look of a farm girl in the war years! The shoes were a contrast to the feminine silhouettes of the dresses, but it worked really well.

This collection was a curvy girls dream, as most of the dresses had full skirts and were accentuated at the waist by soft belts in the same fabric as the dresses: so easy to wear and they looked fantastic! photo timurkim2_zpsb496cc7a.jpg photo timurkim3_zps0dd016dd.jpg In beauty terms, make-up was understated and minimal. And I fell head over heels in love with the tousled deconstructed curls created by the hair stylists: I know this was an Autumn Winter collection, but it would be a perfect look for this summer, and is definitely going on my inspiration board!
photo timurkim4_zps4824f792.jpg I can understand why there is such a buzz around Timur Kim: I was almost sad when this catwalk show was over. My prediction is that it would be long until this designer leaves Vauxhall Fashion Scouts and progresses to the mains shows at Somerset House: onwards and upwards to bigger and better things!

The Show: Redefinition

Hi guys,
If I ever won a substantial amount of money then one of the things I would do would be to take a tour of the shopping centres of the UK. I get so jealous when I hear people talking about their local shopping areas on twitter: each one seems different and with its own idiosyncrasies. I think it comes from growing up in a town with 5 shops: shopping centres seem exotic! I already love the Arndale Centre in Manchester, and am a regular visitor to Westfield London. I'd like to visit York, Leeds, and of course, the Bullring in Birmingham.

As well as the shopping (of course!) my favourite things about shopping centres are the unique events each centre hosts. And this weekend, The Bullring are hosting a cracker! The Show: Redefinition is a show that mixes technology and fashion. Real-life and holographic models will blur the lines between reality and illusion in a unique show that will show off loads of A/W trends from stores like Reiss, French Connection, and Forever 21.

Frankly, it sounds amazing! Britain's Next Top Model winner Tiffany Pisani will be taking to the catwalk, and although I don't know who it is, there's going to be a celebrity guest appearance too!

Want to head down and check it out? Then here are the show times:
Friday 23rd September: 10.30am, 1pm, 3pm, 5.30pm
Saturday 24th September: 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm
Sunday 25th September: 11.30am, 1pm, 3pm

If you do go make sure you come back and let me know how it was! I'd love to be able to make it, but sadly I already have other plans this weekend (cue loud sobs!) You can find out more about the show on the Bullring Facebook Page.

Maybe i'm an Armani girl!

Hi guys,
I've just seen pictures from the Emporio Armani A/W11 show, and my first thought was, maybe i'm an Armani girl. For it was a complete black out: black as far as the eye could see (with ocassional flashes of a crisp arctic white) The collection really could have been designed with my personal taste in mind:

Here's the inspiration: "In the style of a film noir, beauty is concealed behind a pair of dark glasses and under a hat tilted over the forehead to suggest a hidden mystery. This enigma is heightened by the perception of a life without frontiers, according to a plot that follows an aesthetic journey between different worlds. A precisely defined vision, treated ironically to give an effortless and contemporary image. A stylish take on international espionage, travelling through time and distance, referencing the beat of great nightclubs and the silence of famous hotels."

I loved the layers of black and the mix of the fabrics: the sharp fitting trousers teamed with the knitted scarf/cape and the shiny patent boots was a particular favourite, and an outfit i'm bound to take inspiration from next winter. My favourite piece from the collection was the raw edged sleeveless dress: it looked amazing against the models pale skin and with her vibrant flash of red hair.

I know it's more classic than fashion forward, but I really love this collection: it's the first one i've seen for ages where I could integrate every single piece into my wardrobe right now and wear it to death. Maybe, deep down, what I really want is to be a film noir spy!

Would you like to see a fashion show this weekend?

It's not often that you can get something for nothing. It's also not often that fashion shows are open to any fashionistas that want to attend. But that is what's happening at the museum of london this weekend!
.
Free catwalk shows and workshops are taking place at the Museum of London all over the weekend, run by Fashion Diversity in association with Mahogany Model Management & Untold Design CIC, with shows from emerging, established and honorary designers including
.
I went to the preview last night, and I can tell you that if you don't have any other plans this weekend, it's definitely worth checking out (and if you do have other plans, they can always be cancelled, right?) These pictures should give you a sneak preview of what you'll get if you do:
See what I mean?! Definitely worth checking out some of the incredibly talented designers including choolips (who have a new topshop collection coming out soon), 21 things I love, and a very talented student collective. You can find out more about the events, which end on Saturday, here.
.
Right, now i'm off to check out my wardrobe for the millionth time: I have to leave for my first show in an hour, and I still haven't decided what to wear!!!!
