Fabfrocks reviews: Groupon (and a new haircut)

Hi guys,
I'm signed up to a small army of daily deals websites. And I've written before now about my experiences with beauty treatments brought from Wahanda and similar dedicated beauty voucher sites. But I had never bought a beauty voucher (or any other voucher in fact) from Groupon before. Until now. And I have to say, it was a remarkably easy experience.

My voucher was for a half head of highlights, cut, and blowdry at Pasha in Norwich. (Until recently I didn't even know deals sites existed outside of London, and now I'm obsessed!) I bought my voucher just over 3 weeks ago, and it arrived that same day, so obviously I immediately called the salon and was surprised to get the appointment day and time I wanted straight away. I was half expecting to receive inferior service because I was paying with a voucher, rather than cash. But this really wasn't the case: as shown by the 3.5 hours I spent in the salon receiving my very precise cut and colour!

So what did I have done? Sadly I have no outrageous new hairstyle to show you guys: no mullets or pink tips here (as an aside, I was sorely disappointed by how long they lasted!) Nope. I had what I would refer to as 'the usual': light blonde highlights, and a long straight blunt cut. But I'm really pleased with how it looks: and frankly, because of the voucher, it was a huge bargain! If I can keep finding bargain deals like that, then the root-y period I go through between colours could become a thing of the past....

Hair: Taking a dip!

Hi guys,
My hair has been straight and blonde for years, and I like it, but sometimes it looks and feels a little, well, boring to me. I often flick through hair magazines and admire short assymetric bobs, gamine pixie crops, and
vibrant reds. All amazing looking, but all a step too far for me to try; I'm weirdly overprotective of my hair!

But the trend I've most been tempted by is the dip dye: it ticked all my boxes of making a really bold statement without completely changing my look, and best of all, if I really hated it I could always cut the ends out and noone would ever have to know! So after consulting with my hairdresser when I went for my highlights last Thursday, today I took the plunge....



I know it's a trend that's been around for a while (I'm always behind the times) but I really love it! I wanted it to be a mauve-y purple colour (my latest colour obsession: we've just done our living room this shade!) but apparently because it's going to fade after the first couple of washes, it's started out a little brighter than planned. I think it looks great...even if I do say so myself....

What do you think?! Have you tried anything new with your hair, or given the dip dye trend a go? Or are you tempted to make a hair change, but plucking up the courage to do it? Let's talk about hair!

Taking the Heat with Aussie!

As you can see, my bathroom shelf is like an Aussie (and Soap and Glory) shop. I've tried, and loved, all of their products: I love the peachy smell their coloured-hair products has and how easy to comb my hair is with just a little spritz of their leave in conditioner. My favourite product so far is the shine serum, which leaves my hair glistening and smooth, but not greasy at all.

So when Aussie sent me some of their new "Take the Heat" heat styling products and an invitation for me and my heat styled hair to an event on London Eye on Bonfire night, I knew i'd have to get creative. They also sent along this video, to give me some hair-spiration:

Determined to put the new "Take the Heat" products to the test, I decided to try something new with my hair (and something that i've never tried before, so it probably looks a bit ropey!) I decided to curl my hair using my straighteners. I know it's not a new phenomenon and people have been doing it for ages, but as I own curling tongs, I never saw the need to learn how to do it. However, having tried it, it really does give a different kind of curl. Here's how it looks:

Dodgy self-taken picture alert (and I hadn't put my mascara on either, so it doesn't look like I have any eyes!) But what do you guys think? The products made it feel really soft (so soft I had to add hairspray as I didn't trust it to hold!) and I quite like the softness of the waves. I usually wear my hair poker-straight but I quite like the curled look. Would love to hear your thoughts! Do I go straight or curly for the Bonfire night party?
