Beauty: Adding Quirky Nail Embellishment

It's amazing what you can buy for a pound: That is the official slogan of Poundland, and something I say all the time when I'm in there! When shopping for craft supplies yesterday I came across these Nail Rock nail emellishments, and at such an affordable price (less than the cost of my car parking) I just couldn't resist giving them a go.

They had two varieties instore: sweets and fruit. Obviously I went for the sweets! The lilac shade of varnish is by Models Own. I then sealed the embellishments in place using Nails Inc Kensington Cavier topcoat. The pack did come with nail glue but I didn't want to ruin my nails so I just secured them in place with varnish instead. I slept on them last night and they're still all in place, so so far so good! Here's how they look:

I have no idea how long this look is going to last (I'll let you know how durable it is) or quite what the other mums at the children's farm will think when I turn up with nails like a toddler today. But looking at these makes me happy: and that's definitely worth the 30 minutes it took to do it, even if they do only last for the day! I'm going back to buy a couple more packs before they sell out: I'm planning on doing these for my holiday, and for my sister's Hen 'Do!

Shopping..

I can't get enough of my new studded bangle from Topshop; I've worn it nearly every day this month. £8 well spent! Another item on my 'can't stop wearing' list is my new pink Dior lipstick: such a vibrant shade, and a huge jump from my usual red but I really like it! Primark have all of their new season stock instore: how cute is this owl hat for just £8? And finally: Dior Baby Shoes!! Extravagent, ridiculous, but I just couldn't help myself.

Nails...

My obsession with painting my nails has reached another peak this month! In another old-trend revival, I am loving leopard print nails and update my style and colour constantly: a sign I have too much time on my hands perhaps?! Here are all the colours shown above:

My main activity for the month was London Fashion Week -which feels ages ago now! It felt amazing to be back in London and doing something non-baby related though. My favourite show by far was the Tahir Sultan show (pictured above). I have also indulged in afternoon tea twice this month - not good for my waistline - and hubby and I have another one booked for in a fortnight's time! Finally, a wedding - it's not easy to find wedding-appropriate maternity wear, but I did my best!

Beauty: Fancy nails for beginners!

Nail art is officially the current 'big thing' in beauty, so I'm told. If you have a steady hand and an artistic eye then you can create just about any pattern you like on your nails, and I am totally in awe of what many other fashion and beauty bloggers can do with a nail art pen!

But if you have monkey paws, like me, and still want to do something lovely with your nails then you'll be delighted to learn that I have discovered the magic and the ease of nail glitter. And the best thing is it take less than 5 minutes to do, is almost impossible to get wrong, and it looks so damn fancy:



GOSH Nail Glitter in Silver £4.99 , Rimmel 5 in 1 base and top coat. (Both from Superdrug)

All you do is apply a slick of nail varnish to your nail (I used a clear base coat, but you could use any colour), dip the nail into the pot of glitter, then brush off the excess with a soft brush. I then let it settle for a couple of minutes, apply a top coat to seal the glitter in, and that is literally all there is to it!

I am reliably informed you can do so much more with this nail glitter, including using it to give yourself glittery french tips or create glittery patterns. But as I can't actually draw a straight line across my nails with nail varnish I'm happy to settle for full on metallic glittery talons!

Can you do nail art? Do you have any tips for getting it right, especially fool proof tips for the unskilled?! I'd love to hear them!
